Hey, if you want a bigger future for you, for your practice, for your family, there’s one thing that you absolutely have to do, and that’s to step out of your comfort zone.

I remember back when I was a dental student and we were going to work on that very first patient and the patient that I got assigned was a lower tooth which was really a bummer. It means I had to do a mandibular block, right? I had only done one before. I got it, but I’d only done one before. So, here I have this patient in front of me, I’m going to do some dental work, I’ve got to hit that mandibular block. I was scared to death. And I’m sure the patient was scared to death, because they had to know I wasn’t very experienced. And so, if I hadn’t taken the courage, stepped out of my comfort zone, and gone ahead and given that mandibular block, how could I have ever had a dental career, right?

So, we have to step out of our comfort zone if we want a bigger future. So, what I would ask you is, “right now, in your life, what is something that you are not trying to do because you’re scared you might fail?” I’ve heard lots of things on this. I’ve heard about people wanting to add a new skill set to their practice, right? Maybe take some course on some type of dentistry that you don’t necessarily do, right? And, at some point, you’re going to have that same experience. You’re going to have that very first patient. Your confidence level is going to be low. You’re going to be scared. But, in order to bring a bigger future to your practice, to be able to serve your patients at a higher level, you’ve got to just go for it. You’ve got to work through it. So, think about what’s holding you back. Think about something that you think would be impactful for your practice that you’re scared to do because you’re scared you will fail. That’s where the growth lies.

So, pick one area, go ahead, get your courage up, go for it, and that’s your way to your bigger future.
